Host Your Own Happy Hour

To get started, the very first thing you must do is to send out your invites and ask for RSVP’s. This way you will know in advance how many people are going to attend your happy hour party. This is something that you need to know to get an idea on the quantity of drinks and food you are going to buy.

Next is to pick a theme, as silly as it may seem. This will set the mood for the happy hour and get people excited about coming over and being a part of your get together. I’ve found that one of the most exciting themes to choose is “Tequila Bar”. Most everyone enjoys a delicious Margarita or Tequila drink. Plus, it’s an easy theme to help you get your new found pastime off on the right foot. And to help you even furthur, here are some of my favorite recipe’s that are sure to make your happy hour rock!

1 ½ oz. Tequila½ oz lime juice
1 oz. cointreau
1 oz simple syrup
Salt the rim of the glass

How about some munchies?

Now that the drinks are all ready to serve, what about the food? Of course, you are going to want to have an incredible Tex-Mex menu to go along with those festive drinks. Everyone likes to nibble on something while enjoying their drink. These recipes are sure to make your guests happy.

Tex-Mex Salsa Dip Ingredients

 Festive layered dip

10 oz refried canned beans
16 oz sour cream
8 oz avocado chopped
2 oz taco seasoning
3 chopped plum tomatoes
½ cup chopped green onion
¼ cup chives
3 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)

Spicy salsa

28 oz chopped/diced tomatoes
2 tsp of salt
2 tsp of vinegar
2 jalapenos
1 onion (chopped)
2 garlic cloves
½ cup of canned corn kernels (not cream corn)
¼ green onion

Go for it guacamole

3 avocados (blended or mashed)
1 tsp salt
½ cup of onion (diced)
1 plum tomato (chopped)
2 cloves minced garlic
4 fresh leaves of cilantro (chopped)
¼ chopped green onions
1 lime (just the juice)
Splash of cayenne pepper

Now that you have your drinks and menu ready, you will want to set up a mixing station for the drinks and a self serve buffet for the food. This will give your guests freedom to serve themselves and also give you time to enjoy yourself. The last thing you want to be doing is running back and forth, making sure that everyone has a drink or something to eat. Set it on autopilot and enjoy yourself.

You also want to make sure you have amazing music that will play continuously so that you don’t have to worry about having long gaps of awkward silence while you run to the music player and play the next song. Again, think autopilot for the music as well. An MP3 player with a couple of hours of music set to loop after the last song is my favorite way to go. You might even want to clear out a small area where your guests can dance a bit if they’d like to. This is always a hit in my house.

Keep in mind that when hosting a happy hour from home, it doesn’t always have to be a tex-mex theme. Don’t just go with it because i mentioned it here. Although it is a great way to start, you may want to choose to have a more classy and elegant happy hour party and choose sophisticated wines and snacks to serve in very inventive ways.
